Frequently asked
questions

Everything you need to understand how Briink helps you extract, structure, and reuse ESG data at scale.

What is the ESG Doc Chat?

Briink's ESG Doc chat allows you to interact in real time with ESG and Sustainability documents, including Annual Reports, human rights policies, and any other document containing information about a company's approach to environmental, social, economic (ESG) and governance issues.

You can use the ESG Doc Chat by simply uploading documents, and submitting questions about its contents to extract the data you need. The chatbot will generate answers to your questions based on the information contained in the document. The chatbot additionally provides sources to each answer, so that you can audit the output provided and reference your analytical work.

With ESG Doc Chat, you can upload and ask questions about multiple documents from the same company. This is useful if you want, for example, collect or track environmental, social or governance metrics or KPIs across different documents.

🚨 IMPORTANT: Running an assessment on multiple documents that do not pertain to the same company is not recommended, as it might lead to inaccurate and misleading results.

Do you offer solutions for ESG reporting?

Briink helps with ESG reporting by automating the most time-consuming parts of the workflow, especially data collection, structuring, and questionnaire completion. So teams can focus on analysis and decision-making.

Many of our clients have used our AI technology to significantly streamline their ESG data collection efforts for the purpose of ESG reporting.

Currently, Briink does not help with end-to-end reporting.

You can learn more about how clients like Coller Capital, one of the largest global investors in the private capital secondary market, have successfully adopted Briink's AI solutions to gather more granular understanding of their exposure to ESG assets, which they have then used to evidence their EU Taxonomy reports.

How does Briink support ESG ratings?

Briink helps teams prepare for ESG ratings such as CDP, EcoVadis, S&P and others by automating data collection and questionnaire workflows.

The platform extracts relevant ESG data from existing documents and pre-fills rating questionnaires with structured, source-backed answers. It also identifies gaps against specific rating requirements, helping teams understand what’s missing and improve their submissions.

By reducing manual work and increasing consistency, Briink enables faster, more accurate, and audit-ready responses across multiple ESG ratings.

Can Briink scan websites?

Briink can process and analyze web pages.

When a website URL is copy-pasted to Briink, a PDF version of the webpage is generated automatically.

Briink can also find relevant ESG content across multiple web pages. Just navigate to the Web Scanner in your Briink Document collection!

Which languages does Briink support?

Briink supports over 85 languages (listed below)! This means you can :

  • Upload documents in different languages
  • Write questions in different languages
  • Ask our models to respond in different languages (via the instructions feature)

The only small clarification here is that currently Briink primarily does its model benchmarking and ensures our model quality with english language data sets so cannot determine with the same level of certainty the quality of responses in other languages. However, based on feedback from our clients and partners, Briink's performance and results remain strong in many other languages.

Setting a language in the ESG questionnaire assistant with user instructions

Another way to change the language of your outputs is to use the "user instructions" feature in the ESG questionnaire assistant.

This can be especially useful when you have a questionnaire in English, but need to generate answers in another language.

Please note, this feature is currently only available for Briink's ESG Questionnaire Assistant.

You can learn more about how user instructions work in the dedicated article.

Which AI models do you use?

Briink is powered by a combination of our own proprietary tech and large foundation models (LLMs) like OpenAI's GPT to increase the models' performance on ESG data.

However, we are constantly exploring other models, including Open Source models. If you any other questions about our models, or about our models' security and safety, please reach out to product@briink.com or security@briink.com. We'll be more than happy to answer!

How does Briink ensure responsible and sustainable use of AI?

Briink uses AI in a way that prioritises efficiency, low environmental impact, and strong governance. We apply a “right-sized” approach—using lightweight models for simpler tasks and more advanced models only when necessary—to minimize energy consumption.

Rather than training large models from scratch, we build on existing foundation models and enhance them with our own ESG-specific logic, reducing resource use while maintaining high-quality results. Our platform is hosted on low-carbon cloud infrastructure, and all AI systems are governed by a Responsible AI Use Policy to ensure they are used safely, ethically, and in line with regulations.
